Shri Mahalakshmi Temple, Shri Kshethra Uchila.
Shree Mahalakshmi Devasthana or (Sri) Shri Mahalakshmi Temple is at Uchila in the Udupi district.
For fishermen in the coastal region around Udupi and Mangaluru, the Shree Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchila is one of the most important places of worship.
Dedicated to the Goddess Mahalaxmi, the idol housed in this temple is believed to be the third most revered Mahalaxmi idol after those in Kolhapur and Mumbai. The temple has been recently renovated. People here believe that the Mahalakshmi temple at Uchila is the third most revered and influential after the Mahalakshmi Devi of Kolhapur and Mumbai.
Uchhila Navaratri Navadurga
Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity
Shree Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchila was built in 1957 to facilitate Mogaveeras residing in Mangalore and Udupi Talukas as Bennekuduru (Barkur) was considered inaccessible. The pictures of temple and idol of Shree Mahalakshmi are given here.
The temple has an awe-inspiring beauty when seen from outside, and the temple has been built by expert sculptors in the style of art of Hoysala tradition. The outer and inner enclosures of the temple are made of granite and contain attractive wooden carvings. Looking at the architecture here feels like seeing Belur and Halebid. The carving of the wooden idols we see here is done by Harish Acharya Kalamundkur. Before the temple was designed, the darshan of the goddess here had to be done from a distance. But, after the current redesign, we can get a closer view of the goddess.
